Ximeicun lies in southern Fujian, inland from Quanzhou, in a valley of the Jin River system surrounded by low hills. From above, it reads as a dense urban core along the water. Blocks of housing, older lanes and newer avenues press outward until the ground begins to rise, and bridges and main roads connect it with neighbouring towns across the valley.
The name refers to Ximei, the area that serves as the urban centre of Nan'an, a county-level city under Quanzhou. Like much of southern Fujian, the region has a long tradition of trade and emigration, and many Chinese families in Southeast Asia trace their ancestry to this part of the province. Manufacturing and commerce have driven its recent growth.

Low hills surround the valley floor, and the built-up area spreads along the valley rather than over the slopes. This gives the map an elongated, organic shape.

Narrow lanes in the older neighbourhoods sit beside the wider, straighter roads of more recent development. When printed large, the contrast in scale gives the map texture.
