Alcântara Map Poster & Print
Alcântara sits on the mainland shore of São Marcos Bay in Maranhão, looking across the water toward the island city of São Luís. From above, the town is compact. A short grid of old streets covers a low rise near the water, and the edges quickly give way to open ground, scrub and the irregular green of mangrove creeks that cut into the coastline.
The town grew rich in the colonial period from plantation agriculture, and much of that past still shows in its layout. Churches, squares and the ruins of large townhouses mark the centre, and the historic core has been protected as a national heritage site since the mid-twentieth century. On a map, the older blocks appear as a tight cluster of streets, clearly set apart from the looser pattern of newer homes around them.
An Alcântara map poster captures a place where the coastline matters as much as the streets. Tidal channels, sandbanks and the curve of the bay frame the town on the page, and the lines of land and water turn into clean contrasts in black and white. Because the settlement is small, the surrounding shoreline gets plenty of room in the composition, which gives the finished print an open, quiet balance.

São Marcos Bay
The broad bay separating Alcântara from São Luís takes up much of the map. The two places have long been linked by boat across its tidal waters.
Mangrove coastline
Winding creeks and inlets break up the shore around the town, making a branching pattern of water and land that looks striking as clean linework.

Miért Alcântara?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Alcântara often appeals to people who have made the crossing from São Luís, spent time among its colonial streets, or have family ties to the Maranhão coast. The map shows a small town with a large bay beside it, and it reads well framed on a wall.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to add a name, a date or a short note, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The poster comes as digital HD files for $9, or it can be printed on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
