Planned grid
The central districts follow a straightforward pattern of wide avenues and large blocks, left over from the city's founding as a mining base in the mid-twentieth century.

Baiyin Map Poster & Print
Baiyin lies north-east of Lanzhou in the dry uplands of central Gansu. Its name means white silver, and the modern city grew from the 1950s around copper and other metal mining. The map shows that planned origin: a compact grid of broad streets and industrial blocks set in a landscape of bare, deeply eroded hills.
Beyond the built-up area, dry gullies and ridges fan out in every direction. On a poster they appear as open space with only the occasional road threading through. The contrast between the ordered centre and the surrounding terrain is the city's defining feature from above, and it is sharper than in most places of a similar size.
The Yellow River passes through the wider prefecture and feeds the farming valleys beyond the city. A Baiyin map poster is a portrait of an industrial town in a demanding setting. Straight avenues, rail lines and works are drawn with purpose across a landscape that offers few natural lines of its own.

Loess hills
At the edges, the street network stops abruptly against eroded hills and dry valleys. This gives the poster a strong frame of empty space around the settlement.
Rail and industry
Railway lines and large industrial sites sit at the margins of the city. Their long, straight forms add a heavier graphic weight to the outer parts of the map.

Miért Baiyin?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Baiyin is the kind of place people carry with them after moving away: a family's working years, or a childhood among mine and factory estates. A map of the city gives that history a calm, readable form, and the title and subtitle can hold a family name or a year.
There are five styles, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand echoes the dry hills around the city. The $9 digital files include six print sizes, and printed posters on matte paper can be ordered with or without a frame.
