Basmat is a town in the Hingoli district of Maharashtra, in the Marathwada region of the Deccan plateau. On a map it shows the pattern common to many market towns in the area: a close-knit centre of short, irregular lanes, surrounded by looser residential streets and then open agricultural land crossed by straight rural roads.
The town serves a wide farming hinterland, and the roads leading out of it connect Basmat with nearby towns and villages across the plain.
