Bechem sits in the Ahafo Region of western Ghana, and from above it reads as a small, dense knot of streets surrounded by open country. Roads come in from several directions and meet near the centre, where the plots are tightest. Beyond that core the pattern loosens quickly, with scattered compounds giving way to fields and patches of woodland.
The town is the administrative seat of its district and a local trading point for the farming communities around it, and the map shows that role clearly. Everything seems to lead inward. Minor lanes branch off the main routes in short, irregular spurs, following the ground rather than any planned grid, which gives the linework an organic, hand-drawn quality.
