The Viskan River
The river runs through the heart of town, linking the old centre with the former industrial areas. Its narrow course adds a soft curve to the street pattern.

Borås Map Poster & Print
Borås was founded in 1621 by royal charter under Gustav II Adolf. It grew around trade and later textile manufacturing, which made the town one of Sweden's main centres for weaving and clothing. The Viskan River flows through the centre, and the old core sits along its course. On a map the river's line and the compact central grid are the first things to catch the eye.
The land around the town is hilly and wooded, with lakes scattered among the forests. Neighbourhoods follow the valleys and slopes, so the outer streets curve and branch rather than keeping a regular pattern. Larger roads wrap around the centre and head toward Gothenburg and other parts of Västra Götaland.
Today Borås is known for its textile heritage, now shown in a museum and fashion centre, and for the public sculptures placed around its streets. A Borås map poster captures the river through the middle, the dense town centre, and the lakes and hills that give the surroundings their irregular, organic shape.

Compact centre
The central grid is small and clearly defined. It is surrounded by larger roads that circle it and connect the town to the region.
Lakes and forest
Wooded hills and scattered lakes surround the town. In print they create open spaces and irregular outlines around the built area.
