Ring of boulevards
A ring of streets and parks follows the line of the old city walls. It encloses the historic centre in a clear oval, the first thing the eye finds on the map.

Brno Map Poster & Print
Brno lies where the Svratka and Svitava rivers meet in South Moravia. From above, the historic centre is a compact oval inside a ring of boulevards that replaced its fortifications. Two hills rise at its western edge. Petrov carries the Cathedral of St Peter and Paul, and the larger Špilberk is topped by its fortress and surrounded by parkland.
Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic and the centre of Moravia. In the Augustinian abbey in Old Brno, Gregor Mendel carried out the pea experiments that founded genetics. Villa Tugendhat, designed by Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1930, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. A large trade fair ground spreads along the Svratka southwest of the centre.
A Brno map poster shows a city with a clear structure. The ring road encloses the old town, the two rivers pass to the south and east, and residential districts climb the surrounding hills. The Brno Reservoir to the northwest adds a broad shape of water at the edge of the plan.

Špilberk and Petrov
Two hills rise at the western edge of the centre, one with a fortress and one with a cathedral. Their slopes appear as open spaces within the dense city.
Two rivers
The Svratka and the Svitava pass through the south of the city and join there. They draw curved lines through the industrial and residential districts.
