Cauquenes Map Poster & Print
Cauquenes was founded in the eighteenth century, and its map still shows the Spanish colonial plan. Square blocks of equal size spread out from a central Plaza de Armas in a regular chequerboard. Toward the edges the grid meets rolling ground and bends a little, and newer neighbourhoods trace the lines of the hills.
The Cauquenes river curves past the town, and farmland and vineyards surround it. This is the dry inland zone of the Maule coastal range. Old vines here are traditionally grown without irrigation, and the País grape has long been linked with the area. The town is the capital of its province and serves the farming valleys around it.
A Cauquenes map poster suits a place of long continuity. The town was badly damaged in the 2010 earthquake and has been rebuilding since, but the street plan kept its original order.
