The Missouri River
The river curves along the city's western side, separating Iowa from Nebraska. Bridges and interstate crossings stitch the two banks together in a few strong lines.

Council Bluffs Map Poster & Print
Council Bluffs lies on the Iowa side of the Missouri River, directly opposite Omaha. On a map the city fills a wide, flat floodplain. Streets run in a steady grid toward the river, and interstates and bridges tie the two cities together. To the east the ground rises into the Loess Hills, the steep wind-built bluffs that give the city its name.
The city's place in American history comes from the railroad. Abraham Lincoln chose Council Bluffs as the eastern starting point of the Union Pacific, and rail yards still take up large, clearly visible parts of the map. Before that, the site was a crossing and stopping place for travellers heading west along the Missouri.
A Council Bluffs map poster captures that meeting of river, rail and hills. The Missouri draws a strong line on the western edge, the grid spreads evenly across the bottomland, and the streets grow more irregular where they climb into the bluffs. It is a view that places the city clearly within the Omaha–Council Bluffs area while still showing its own shape.

Loess Hills edge
East of downtown the regular grid gives way to winding roads that follow the ridges and ravines of the bluffs, a clear change in texture on the map.
Rail yards
Broad bands of track and yards recall the city's role as the eastern terminus of the first transcontinental railroad, still a major feature from above.

Miért Council Bluffs?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Council Bluffs is often seen as Omaha's neighbour, and a map poster gives it its own frame. It is a thoughtful gift for someone who grew up near the river, commutes across it, or has family roots in western Iowa.
