Criciúma Map Poster & Print
Criciúma lies in the south of Santa Catarina, and from above its street pattern follows a rolling landscape rather than a strict grid. The centre sits on a relatively level area, with denser blocks and a few straight avenues, while neighbourhoods stretch outward over hills and valleys in branching, irregular shapes.
The city grew with coal mining, which shaped much of the surrounding land, and today the map shows a mix of dense urban neighbourhoods, industrial areas and open ground between them. Main roads radiate from the centre toward neighbouring towns, and the BR-101 highway passes to the east, linking the region with the rest of the coast.
Founded in the late nineteenth century by European immigrants, many of them Italian, Criciúma became known as a coal capital of Brazil and today is also a centre for ceramics and textiles. A Criciúma map poster captures a working city whose streets bend with the terrain it was built on.
