Contour-following streets
Roads through the town curve along slopes and valley floors instead of forming a grid, so the street pattern itself reveals the shape of the hills.

Gelan Map Poster & Print
Gelan is a town in Changshou District of Chongqing, north of the Yangtze in the rolling hill country that covers much of the municipality. Unlike the flat grids of the plains, its streets bend and step with the terrain, and the town's shape is defined by the ridges and shallow valleys it has grown between.
Around the built-up centre, the map is full of fine detail: terraced fields shaped to the contours, farm lanes switching back up slopes, ponds and small reservoirs holding water in the valleys. New roads and residential blocks have extended the town in recent years, adding a few straighter lines to an otherwise organic pattern.
A Gelan map poster reflects the character of the eastern Sichuan Basin hills more than any single landmark. It is a map of curves rather than axes, where every street seems to negotiate with the ground. Printed in black and white, the result is intricate and calm, a detailed portrait of a place most visitors would only pass through.

Terraced fields
Farmland around Gelan is cut into terraces and irregular plots, producing a finely layered texture that fills the outer parts of the poster.
Valley ponds
Small ponds and reservoirs sit in the low ground between hills, adding scattered closed shapes of water to the composition.

Miért Gelan?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Many people from Changshou and its towns now live in the city centre or far beyond Chongqing. A map of Gelan keeps the familiar lanes and hills of home close at hand, without the need for a view or a photograph.
Choose a title and subtitle, perhaps a family name or the year you left, and edit the coordinates line. Paper and Sand soften the dense hill pattern, while Noir, Blueprint and Classic black & white make it sharper.
