Radiating tracks
Unpaved routes lead away from the town in many directions across the savanna. Their thin, branching lines dominate the outer parts of the map.

Gereida Map Poster & Print
Gereida lies in the southern part of Darfur, in a region of flat savanna and seasonal watercourses. On a map the town is a loose pattern of tracks and compounds rather than paved streets and blocks, with paths leading out into the countryside. Its edges are soft. Homes and enclosures thin out gradually into open land, leaving plenty of space around the settlement.
In the mid-2000s, during the conflict in Darfur, Gereida hosted one of the largest camps for displaced people in the region, and its population grew far beyond that of a typical rural town. Much of the settlement's present extent dates from that period, when large areas of closely spaced shelters grew up around the older centre.
A Gereida map poster is a spare composition, drawn from tracks and outlines rather than dense grids. It will matter most to people with a personal connection to the town. That includes families from the area, aid workers who spent time there and researchers of the region, for whom the pattern of its lanes holds real meaning.

Compound pattern
Houses grouped within enclosed compounds create a fine, irregular texture across the settlement, quite unlike the rectangular blocks of planned cities.
Open savanna edges
The land around the town is mostly empty on the map, which frames the settlement clearly and gives the print a calm, spacious balance.

Miért Gereida?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
For people who come from Gereida or who have worked there, a map is a quiet, respectful way to remember a place and the people in it. It keeps a specific location present far from Darfur.
You can write the title, subtitle and coordinates line as you choose, perhaps with a family name or a year. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
