Hale lies in Trafford, next to Altrincham, on the southern edge of Greater Manchester. From above, it looks green: large plots, mature trees and quiet avenues that curve rather than run straight. The railway line runs through the middle, and the small village centre sits around the station. That compact knot of shops and streets stands out against the spacious residential areas around it.
