Old town oval
The historic centre forms a compact, rounded cluster of narrow lanes. They wind up to the castle hill and create the densest, most detailed part of the map.

Idstein Map Poster & Print
Idstein lies in the Taunus hills of Hesse, north-west of Frankfurt and between Wiesbaden and Limburg. On a map, the old town is easy to find. It is a small, closely packed oval of lanes on rising ground where the castle and palace stand. Around it, newer districts spread along the valley and up the surrounding slopes.
The town is known for its half-timbered houses, many of which are well preserved around the market square. It is also known for the Hexenturm, the tall round tower that belonged to the old castle. On the map the old core is a dense knot of short, bending streets. Outside it, the pattern opens into residential streets, schools and small industrial areas. Forest covers the hills that close the view on most sides.
An Idstein map poster sets a medieval centre inside a small valley town and surrounds it with the Taunus woods. The high-speed rail line between Cologne and Frankfurt and the motorway pass close by. They add long, straight lines through an otherwise gently curved landscape.

Castle and tower
The palace grounds and the old castle with its Hexenturm occupy the high point of the old town. They are a clear landmark at the heart of the poster.
Taunus woods
Wooded hills surround the town and leave broad, quiet areas at the edges. The streets of the valley and newer suburbs fit between them.
