Old town core
The historic centre of Jharia is a tight knot of narrow, irregular lanes. It is clearly denser than the colliery settlements and mining land around it.

Jharia Map Poster & Print
Jharia lies in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, at the centre of one of India's most important coalfields. The town grew with the mines in the early twentieth century, and its map shows that history plainly. An old, dense core of irregular streets is surrounded by collieries, open-cast pits, rail sidings and settlements built for mine workers, all packed into the land near Dhanbad.
Jharia is known worldwide for its underground coal fires. The first was recorded around 1916, and some have been burning for over a century. Subsidence and fires have forced parts of the area to be relocated. On a map, the open-cast mines appear as large, irregular voids that cut into the older street pattern and the surrounding villages.
A Jharia map poster is not a conventional city portrait. It records a landscape remade by coal, where streets, rail lines and excavations sit side by side. For families with roots in the coalfield, or anyone interested in industrial history, the map carries a weight that a simple photograph rarely does.

Open-cast mines
Large pits and spoil heaps around the town show on the map as blank or broken areas. Their jagged outlines interrupt the streets and roads.
Coalfield railways
Rail lines and sidings built to carry coal run through the area. They link the collieries with Dhanbad and add long, gently curving lines across the map.

Miért Jharia?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Jharia has shaped the lives of generations of miners and their families, and many of them have since moved away. A map of the town honours that connection, and its unusual mix of streets and mining land gives it a character few city maps have.
Add your own title and subtitle, perhaps a family name or a year, and set the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir suits the coalfield well. The files come in six sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
