Jounieh wraps around the Bay of Jounieh on the Lebanese coast north of Beirut, and its map is shaped by the meeting of sea and mountain. The coastline forms a wide, graceful curve, while the built-up area climbs steeply inland, with streets zigzagging up the slopes toward the villages above.
Above the town, the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon at Harissa overlooks the bay, reached by a cable car that climbs from the waterfront. Along the northern side of the bay, the Casino du Liban stands on the coast, and the old souk area lies near the shore in the lower part of town.
