Llíria is about twenty-five kilometres north-west of Valencia, in the Camp de Túria. It is an old place. The Iberian settlement of Edeta stood on the nearby hill of Sant Miquel, and the Romans later built on the lower ground. Today the town is best known for music. Its two historic bands, the Banda Primitiva and the Unió Musical, helped it become a UNESCO Creative City of Music.
The map reflects that long history. The old town is a compact knot of narrow, irregular streets on rising ground, with churches and small squares at its high points. Around it, wider avenues and newer housing spread in a more regular pattern. Beyond them the land opens into fields, orchards and the dry hills of the interior.
