Mantampay lies within Iligan in Northern Mindanao, on the shore of Iligan Bay. The map follows a familiar pattern for this coast: a narrow band of streets along the water and the main highway, then land that climbs quickly into hills and forested slopes. Rivers and creeks cut down from the higher ground to the sea, dividing the built-up strip into sections.
The wider Iligan area is known for its many waterfalls, fed by rivers that descend from the Lanao and Bukidnon highlands, and for its heavy industry along the bay. On a poster, that combination reads as rows of houses near the shore giving way to a more open, contoured landscape inland.
