Marovoay Map Poster & Print
Marovoay lies in the Boeny region of north-western Madagascar, inland from Mahajanga and close to the lower Betsiboka River. It sits at the edge of one of the island's most important rice-growing plains. On the map the built-up area is small compared with the wide, flat lowland around it, which is cut by waterways and field boundaries.
The name is usually translated as many crocodiles, a reference to the rivers and marshes of the area. The Marovoay plain has long been regarded as one of Madagascar's rice granaries, and the town serves as a market centre for the farms around it. Its roads link the fields with Mahajanga and the coast.
A Marovoay map poster places the town inside its agricultural landscape. The streets form a small core, while irrigation canals and waterways spread across the rest of the frame. The effect is calm and horizontal, a print about flat land and water as much as about the town.

Rivers and marsh
Waterways of the Betsiboka system wind through the plain, and their meandering courses add soft curves to the map.
Compact town core
The streets of Marovoay form a small, fairly dense centre, clearly separated from the fields that begin right at its edges.
