Castle hill
The castle stands on Kameyama hill in the middle of the city, ringed by a moat and stacked stone walls. It anchors the map as a clear, compact shape among the streets.

Marugame Map Poster & Print
Marugame lies on the northern coast of Shikoku in Kagawa Prefecture, facing the Seto Inland Sea. The city spreads across the flat Sanuki plain, and three things set its shape from above. There is the waterfront with its harbour, the compact castle hill at the centre, and a patchwork of fields, irrigation ponds and suburbs reaching inland toward the region's cone-shaped hills.
Marugame Castle is known for its stone walls, which rise in tiers to a total height often cited as the tallest in Japan. Its small keep is one of only twelve original castle keeps still standing in the country. The city is also famous for uchiwa, the round paper fans, and makes most of those produced in Japan.
A Marugame map poster brings together land and sea: the neat grid of the old castle town, the port and reclaimed shoreline, and several of the Shiwaku Islands, including Honjima, which belong to the city. In black and white the islands become quiet shapes in open water, and the moated castle hill forms a striking focal point.

Harbour and coast
The port and its breakwaters face the Seto Inland Sea, with ferries running out to the islands. The northern edge of the poster is a crisp line of piers and basins.
Shiwaku Islands
Honjima and other small islands that belong to Marugame sit offshore across the water. They give the composition a light, open feel away from the dense city.

Miért Marugame?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Marugame is familiar to anyone who has climbed the castle, visited the islands during the Setouchi Triennale or eaten Sanuki udon nearby. A map of the city makes a thoughtful souvenir and a natural choice for people who grew up in Kagawa.
Add a title and subtitle of your choice, perhaps the date of a visit, and keep or change the coordinates line. All five styles work well with the island shapes: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files for six sizes cost $9.
