Potomac palisades
Along the northern edge, the land drops steeply to the Potomac River. The George Washington Memorial Parkway follows the bluffs, tracing a graceful curve across the poster.

McLean Map Poster & Print
McLean is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County, Virginia, on the south bank of the Potomac River northwest of Washington, D.C. From above, it is a landscape of curving residential roads, large lots and dense tree cover. The steep river palisades bound it on one side, and the Capital Beltway and Tysons on the other.
The community was named after John Roll McLean, the newspaper publisher who co-founded a local electric railway in the early twentieth century. McLean is also home to the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency, in the Langley area near the river, and to many residences associated with Washington's political and diplomatic life.
A McLean map poster reveals an unusual suburb. Instead of a grid, streets branch, loop and end in cul-de-sacs, while the George Washington Memorial Parkway runs along the river and Chain Bridge crosses into the District. The dense web of roads and the dark line of the Potomac make a detailed, elegant composition.

Chain Bridge
Chain Bridge crosses the Potomac from McLean to Washington, D.C., at one of the river's historic crossing points. On the map it links the wooded suburb with the capital.
Beltway and Tysons
To the west, the Capital Beltway and the high-density district of Tysons contrast sharply with the quiet residential streets and show up as a tight knot of roads.
