Murshidābād Map Poster & Print
Murshidābād lies along the Bhagirathi, a distributary of the Ganges, and the river decides almost everything about the town's shape on a map. Streets run roughly parallel to the bank, lanes step down toward the water, and the surrounding land is marked by old channels, oxbow curves and ponds left behind by a river that has shifted course over centuries.
The town takes its name from Murshid Quli Khan, who moved the capital of Bengal here in the early eighteenth century. For decades it was the seat of the Nawabs of Bengal, and the Battle of Plassey in 1757, fought not far to the south, marked the start of the end of that period. The best-known building today is the Hazarduari Palace, the palace of a thousand doors.
A Murshidābād map poster shows a place that feels spread out rather than dense: palace compounds, mosques and gardens sit in open grounds between residential quarters, and the fine texture of lanes gives way quickly to fields and water. The river runs through the composition as a broad, slow ribbon, with the opposite bank almost entirely rural.

Palace grounds
The riverside complex around the Hazarduari Palace appears as a large open enclosure, set apart from the tighter pattern of residential lanes nearby.
Ponds and old channels
Scattered tanks and abandoned river loops dot the landscape around the town, giving the map a quiet, watery texture beyond the built-up area.
