Winding local roads
Instead of a grid, lanes follow the lie of the land. They split and meet at irregular junctions, giving the map a soft, branching texture that is typical of the Kerala countryside.

Pallichal Map Poster & Print
Pallichal lies in the countryside just outside Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, and its map looks nothing like a planned city. There is no grid. Roads follow the gentle rises and dips of the land, branching and rejoining. Houses spread along them in long, thin lines, with coconut groves and cultivated plots filling the gaps between.
Like much of southern Kerala, the area is laced with small streams, ponds and irrigation channels that feed paddy fields in the low ground. On a map these show up as fine, irregular lines and scattered small shapes. The built-up area thins and thickens as it moves across them, without a sharp edge anywhere.
A Pallichal map poster captures that semi-rural pattern of lanes, water and village clusters. It is a quiet, detailed composition, better suited to close viewing than to bold graphic impact. For anyone who grew up in the area or has family there, it records the exact web of routes between home, temple, school and the road into the city.

Water in the lowlands
Ponds, streams and channels mark the lower ground used for cultivation. They add small, organic shapes that break up the pattern of the roads.
Edge of the capital
Toward the north, the lines of roads tighten as the settlement approaches Thiruvananthapuram. The map shows where village texture begins to give way to the city.
