Pontiac Map Poster & Print
Pontiac is the seat of Oakland County, north of Detroit, and its downtown has an unusual shape. Woodward Avenue, the long avenue that runs up from Detroit, splits into a one-way loop that circles the old business district. On a map it looks like a clear ring. Streets radiate from it into neighbourhoods laid out on a mostly regular grid.
The city takes its name from the eighteenth-century Odawa leader Pontiac, and it later lent that name to the General Motors car brand built here for decades. Manufacturing sites and rail yards still take up large parcels on the map. The Pontiac Silverdome, once home to the Detroit Lions, stood on the city's edge until it was demolished in the late 2010s.
A Pontiac map poster brings out the city's structure: the downtown loop, the radiating streets and the industrial land along the railways. To the west, the lakes and ponds of Oakland County begin to appear. For people who grew up here or worked in its plants, the map gives a clear view of a city with a long, complicated industrial story.

Industrial parcels
Large blocks of former and current factory land sit beside the rail lines. They form broad, empty shapes on the map that recall the city's automotive past.
Lakes to the west
Toward the western edges, small lakes and ponds begin to appear in the landscape. They are a first sign of the lake country that covers much of Oakland County.
