Valley-floor roads
Main routes follow the lower ground between hills and bend with the terrain. From above they form a branching network rather than a grid, which is typical of rural Hunan.

Santangpu Map Poster & Print
Santangpu lies in the hill country of Hunan, where flat ground is scarce and settlement follows it closely. On a map, the town appears as a compact cluster of streets inside a wider pattern of farm plots, ponds and rounded hills. Roads run along the valley floors rather than over the slopes, so the network branches naturally instead of forming a grid.
The countryside in this part of the province is typically divided into small fields and dotted with water: irrigation channels, reservoirs and the ponds that feed the rice paddies. Drawn in fine lines, these features make the land around the town as interesting as the town itself. The result is a patchwork in which every bend in the road responds to the terrain.
A Santangpu map poster is a quiet, specific kind of image. It does not rely on famous landmarks. Instead it records how a working Hunan town fits into its land: where streets gather, where they thin out into lanes, and how the hills hold everything in place. For anyone with roots here, that pattern is instantly recognisable.

Fields and ponds
Small cultivated plots and bodies of water surround the built-up area, turning the edges of the map into a fine, irregular mosaic in black and white.
Compact town core
The town's streets gather into a dense centre that stands apart clearly from the scattered farmhouses and hamlets across the surrounding countryside.

Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Many families from small Hunan towns now live in larger cities or abroad. A map of Santangpu keeps the home place in view. It is drawn without decoration, simply as the streets and land that shaped a childhood or a family history.
