Streatham sits in south London, in the borough of Lambeth, and its map is organised by one line: Streatham High Road, part of the old road from London to Brighton, running roughly north to south through the district. On either side, the streets form a dense mesh of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, with larger houses and mansion blocks on the slopes of Streatham Hill.
Open space defines the edges. Streatham Common rises to the south with woodland and The Rookery gardens, while Tooting Bec Common spreads to the west. Railway lines cut through the area, and three stations, Streatham, Streatham Hill and Streatham Common, mark the district's main junctions.
