Swansea Bay curve
The bay traces a broad, even crescent of coastline between the docks and Mumbles Head, leaving a large field of open water that gives the whole composition its balance.

Swansea Map Poster & Print
Seen from above, Swansea is defined by its bay. The shoreline sweeps in a long, smooth arc from the docks in the east to the headland at Mumbles in the west, and the city fills the ground behind it with terraces that climb the hillsides. The River Tawe cuts north to south through the eastern side, and its lower reaches are lined with the basins of the old docks and the newer marina.
Behind the seafront, the street pattern shifts from the compact centre to looping residential roads on the slopes of Townhill and Mayhill. Further west it gives way to open ground as the Gower Peninsula begins. Swansea grew as a copper-smelting centre in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The poet Dylan Thomas, born here in 1914, famously called it an ugly, lovely town.
A Swansea map poster works because the geography is so easy to read: sea, river and hills in one frame. In black and white the bay becomes a clean curve of empty space, the docks turn into precise geometric cuts, and the dense terraces read as fine texture climbing away from the water. People who know the city recognise it at once.

River Tawe and docks
The Tawe runs straight down to the sea on the eastern side, flanked by rectangular dock basins and the marina, a sharp industrial geometry against the soft line of the shore.
Hillside terraces
North of the centre, streets on Townhill and Mayhill follow the contours of the slope, producing tight parallel curves that read almost like a topographic drawing.

Miért Swansea?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Swansea is a place people leave and keep thinking about, whether they studied here, grew up in the terraces or spent summers on the Gower. A map of the bay is a quiet way to keep that coastline on the wall, recognisable without any explanation.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a street name, a family name or a date that matters. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
