Tūyserkān lies in Hamadan Province in western Iran, on the southern side of the Alvand mountains. Streams from the range water a green valley of orchards and fields. The town is known across Iran for its walnuts, which grow in the gardens around it. Its setting makes it cooler and greener than much of the surrounding plateau.
The town is also home to a mausoleum traditionally identified as the tomb of the prophet Habakkuk, a site of significance to both Muslims and Jews. From above, the streets form a compact grid around the centre. The lanes grow narrower and more irregular toward the older quarters and the edges of the gardens.
