Valley-floor streets
With level ground in short supply, Wanshui's streets stretch along the valley rather than spreading outward, giving the town an elongated, directional shape on the poster.

Wanshui Map Poster & Print
Wanshui lies in the mountainous east of Guizhou province, a landscape of steep hills, forested ridges and deep valleys. On a map the town occupies whatever flat ground it can find, so its streets stretch along valley floors rather than spreading evenly in every direction. Roads wind in from the surrounding hills, following the contours to reach it.
Guizhou is known for its karst geology and rugged relief, which make level land scarce and give settlements distinctive, elongated shapes. The name Wanshui can be read as ten thousand waters, fitting for a province laced with streams and small rivers. Around the town, fields and scattered villages cling to the slopes, connected by narrow, twisting roads.
A Wanshui map poster captures that close relationship between town and terrain. The dense cluster of streets contrasts with the looping roads outside, which reveal the steepness of the land without any contour lines. In black and white the result is organic and flowing, very different from a flat-country grid and closely tied to the mountains of southwest China.

Winding mountain roads
Roads approaching the town loop and switch back as they follow the hillsides, drawing expressive, curving lines across the outer parts of the map.
Karst country
The surrounding landscape of steep hills and narrow valleys is typical of Guizhou, and it gives the map a strong sense of enclosure around the town.

Miért Wanshui?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
