Watford lies northwest of London, just inside the M25. From above, the town centre is enclosed by a tight ring road that loops around the High Street and the shopping area. Around it, terraced streets fill the Victorian districts, and larger suburban roads spread out towards the motorways. The River Colne and the Grand Union Canal run along the town's eastern and western sides.
The town is known for Watford Football Club, whose ground at Vicarage Road sits close to the centre, and for Cassiobury Park, a large green space created from the grounds of a former country estate. Just to the north, the old Leavesden aerodrome is now a film studio, known for the Harry Potter series.
