River valley core
The town stretches along a river valley, where the flat land is. Its built-up area forms a long, dense band through the middle of the map.

Wenquan Map Poster & Print
Wenquan is a town in the northeast of Chongqing municipality, in the steep, folded terrain north of the Yangtze. The name means “hot spring”, a feature associated with many places of the same name across China. From above, the town is shaped by its valley. Streets run along the river, buildings crowd onto the flatter ground, and the slopes rise quickly on either side.
Like many mountain towns in this part of China, Wenquan is long and narrow rather than broad. Roads follow the watercourses and switch back up the hillsides, and farms and hamlets are scattered across terraces. The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding rural area, with markets, schools and services concentrated along its main streets.
The Wenquan map poster gets its character from terrain rather than from any grand plan. The river and valley road run through the middle of the frame, a dense strip of streets follows them, and winding roads climb away into open space. The result has movement and direction, like a line drawn through the mountains.

Switchback roads
Roads leaving town climb the slopes in curves and hairpins. They trace expressive, looping lines across the otherwise open parts of the frame.
Scattered hamlets
Beyond the centre, small settlements sit on terraces and ridges. They appear as isolated clusters connected by thin, winding tracks.

Miért Wenquan?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
For people who grew up in the mountains of northeastern Chongqing, a map of Wenquan brings back the shape of the valley and the roads out of it. The flowing lines also make a calm, graphic piece that works well in modern interiors.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, and you can add a date. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper gives the valley lines a softer, more hand-drawn feel.
