Windsor sits in Northern Colorado, roughly midway between Fort Collins and Greeley, on the high plains east of the Front Range. The Cache la Poudre River runs along its southern side, bordered by a green corridor of trails and open space, while the older town centre gathers near Windsor Lake, a reservoir that gives the map a distinctive open shape close to Main Street.
The original town grew with the railroad and with agriculture, including a sugar beet factory that once processed the region's harvest. Its historic streets form a simple grid. Around that core, Windsor has expanded rapidly over recent decades, and the map shows curving subdivisions, golf course communities and business parks spreading across former fields, bounded by long, straight section-line roads.
