Springfield sits in Delaware County, a short distance west of Philadelphia, and from above it reads as a classic postwar suburb. There is no single grid here. Instead, short blocks of houses bend around each other in loops and cul-de-sacs, and the lines get denser wherever older neighbourhoods meet the main roads. The effect on paper is a fine, even texture broken up by a few long, confident arteries.
The township's edges are drawn by water and woodland. Crum Creek runs along the west side in a green, winding corridor, and the Blue Route, Interstate 476, follows part of that valley before heading north. Baltimore Pike crosses the township as its main commercial spine, and the Springfield Mall sits beside it. In black and white, these features give a quiet residential pattern a clear sense of direction.
