Abreus lies in Cienfuegos Province in central southern Cuba, on the broad lowland that spreads between the Escambray foothills and the coast. From above, the town appears as a tidy grid of blocks, typical of Cuban provincial settlements. The streets meet at right angles, and a few main roads leave the edges toward neighbouring towns and the provincial capital.
The land around the town is flat and mostly agricultural, divided into large fields that give the map a calm, open quality.
