Abū Ḩammād lies in Sharqia Governorate on the eastern side of the Nile Delta, where the intensively farmed land of the delta begins to give way toward the desert that stretches to the Suez Canal. On a map the town is a dense, compact cluster of streets surrounded by a fine web of canals and field boundaries.
