Aileu is the capital of the municipality of the same name in Timor-Leste. It lies in the mountains south of Dili, reached by a winding road that climbs from the coast. The town is set in a valley among steep ridges, and its streets follow the flatter ground along the valley floor.
On a map, Aileu is small and loosely arranged. It has a few main streets, government and church buildings, and houses scattered among gardens and trees.
