Aïn Temouchent lies in northwestern Algeria, between Oran and Tlemcen, a short drive inland from the Mediterranean coast. The land around it is broad and agricultural. From above, the town is a well-defined block of streets, with country roads leading out from it across the surrounding fields toward the coast and the neighbouring cities.
The town serves as the capital of its province, and the wider area is known for farming on the fertile plains between the hills and the sea. On a map the core is easy to read.
