Akdağmadeni is a district town in Yozgat Province, in the highlands of central Anatolia. It lies at altitude, in country of rounded hills, open fields and long views. From above, the town's streets spread across uneven ground. They follow slopes and ridges rather than a regular grid, with a denser centre and looser housing toward the edges.
Its name points to mining. Madeni means of the mine, and the area around Akdağ was known for its mineral deposits in earlier centuries. Today it is a quieter place, rooted in the agriculture and small-town life of the Anatolian plateau.
