Akivīdu is a town in the Godavari delta region of Andhra Pradesh, close to Kolleru Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in India. The landscape around it is flat and full of water, and on a map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets surrounded by canals, fields and an extensive pattern of ponds.
The area is known for aquaculture, and fish and prawn ponds cover large parts of the countryside around the town. Seen from above, these ponds form a remarkable geometric patchwork of rectangles divided by narrow embankments, alongside the irrigation canals that run through this fertile delta.
