Numbered microdistricts
The city is divided into large residential blocks that are known by number rather than by name. Their regular outlines give the poster a clear, modular pattern.

Aktau Map Poster & Print
Aktau stands on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, on the Mangyshlak peninsula in western Kazakhstan. The city was founded in the 1960s and built to a single plan, and its map shows this plainly. Large blocks sit back from the shoreline with broad roads between them, and the desert stretches inland without interruption.
Aktau is known for its addressing system. Most locations are identified by microdistrict, building and apartment numbers instead of street names, so a local address can be just three numbers. In the Soviet era the city was called Shevchenko, and a nuclear-powered plant desalinated seawater for its water supply. Its present name means white mountain in Kazakh.
An Aktau map poster brings out the geometry of the plan: evenly sized microdistricts, the long rocky coast, the port and the open plateau. It suits people who grew up in the numbered blocks, oil workers who spent years here, and anyone fascinated by a city built from scratch at the edge of the sea.

Caspian coastline
The city meets the sea along a rocky shore with pale cliffs, the white mountain of its name. The coast is a clean edge between the grid and open water.
Seaport
Aktau's port is one of Kazakhstan's main harbours on the Caspian. Its piers and quays break up the coastline and connect the city with the other shores of the sea.

Aktauを選ぶ理由
想いが詰まった地図
People remember Aktau precisely, often down to the microdistrict and building number. A map of the city makes that memory tangible and turns an unusual Soviet plan into a strong graphic image.
Use the title and subtitle for your microdistrict or the years you lived there, and set the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and buy the HD files for $9 or a printed poster.
