Aleysk Map Poster & Print
Aleysk is a town in Altai Krai, in southern Siberia, named after the Aley river that flows past it. It grew up in the early twentieth century around a railway station, and its street plan reflects that history: straight streets on a regular grid, with the railway cutting across the town.
The surrounding country is open steppe and farmland, one of the main grain-growing areas of the Altai region. On a map, this appears as a compact built-up area with long, straight roads running out across fields, and the meandering river adding the only natural curve to the scene.
