Amarpur lies in Banka district in south-eastern Bihar, on the plains south of the Ganges, where the land begins to rise gently toward the hills along the Jharkhand border. The town is a local market centre for the surrounding villages. From above it appears as a dense cluster of lanes and houses set among open fields.
The map beyond the town is dominated by farming. Fields are divided into small plots, village settlements are scattered between them, and roads link Amarpur with neighbouring towns in the region. Small rivers and seasonal streams cross the plains, adding a few winding lines to an otherwise level landscape.
