Ammanford Map Poster & Print
Ammanford, Rhydaman in Welsh, lies in Carmarthenshire in south-west Wales, where the River Amman flows toward the River Loughor. From above, the town fills the valley floor and climbs the lower slopes, with the main roads meeting at the centre and long rows of streets running along the hillsides.
Ammanford grew in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries on the anthracite coal of the Amman Valley. The mines have closed, but the town's shape still reflects that period: terraced houses in tight parallel rows, chapels and a compact shopping centre, and railway and road routes that follow the valley toward the surrounding villages.
An Ammanford map poster captures the rhythm of those terraces. The parallel streets form strong repeated lines, the river threads through the valley, and the hills around the town are left open. It is a map that many people from the valley will recognise at once, whether they still live nearby or have moved away.
