Ārabī lies in the Somali Region of eastern Ethiopia, in country where settlements are spaced far apart and the land between them is open and largely dry. On a map the town appears as a concentrated network of streets and compounds set against a wide, quiet background. Roads and tracks extend outward from it, connecting the town with neighbouring settlements and the grazing land around.
