Aracoiaba is a municipality in the interior of Ceará, south of the Fortaleza metropolitan area and within the wider region of the Baturité hills. From above, the town has a compact, mostly regular street grid gathered around its centre, with rows of low houses filling blocks of similar size. Beyond them, the built-up area thins quickly into farmland and scrub.
The surrounding landscape is typical of this part of north-eastern Brazil. The lowland is dry for much of the year, with higher, greener ground rising in the distance. Small reservoirs and seasonal streams appear here and there as irregular outlines, and rural roads cross the land toward neighbouring towns.
