Aroeiras is a municipality in the Agreste of Paraíba in northeastern Brazil, not far from the border with Pernambuco. The town is named after the aroeira, a tree common across the region, and sits in rolling country where the plateau begins to break into hills and valleys. Its streets follow that terrain, bending and branching instead of forming a strict grid.
The town centre is compact. The main streets gather around a core and spread out along the roads to neighbouring towns. Beyond the built area, small farms, pastures and patches of scrub cover the slopes, and small reservoirs hold water in the valleys. On a map, the result is a small, tight cluster inside a broad, textured landscape.
