Arzgir lies in the northeast of Stavropol Krai in southern Russia and serves as the administrative centre of its district. The surrounding country is flat, dry steppe, and the map shows it clearly: a settlement that spreads outward rather than upward. Wide streets run in long parallel lines, and each block is edged by houses with deep garden plots behind them.
This layout is typical of large southern Russian villages. The streets are generous, the blocks are long, and there is little crowding at the centre. Beyond the last houses the pattern changes abruptly into field boundaries and straight farm roads that run toward the horizon, so the settlement looks like a firm island in agricultural land.
