Avedøre Map Poster
Avedøre lies on the southwestern edge of Copenhagen, in Hvidovre Municipality, and its map combines two very different areas. Inland is Avedøre Stationsby, a large planned housing development built in the 1970s and 1980s, with its long, continuous blocks arranged in a distinctive pattern. To the east lies Avedøre Holme, land reclaimed from the sea and laid out in straight industrial streets along the coast.
Avedøre Holme is home to Avedøre Power Station, a major combined heat and power plant, and wind turbines stand along its shoreline. The reclaimed land is part of a wider twentieth-century project that turned shallow waters south of Copenhagen into new ground. Nearby, green areas and the Kalveboderne coast provide open space for walking and cycling.
