Āwash Map Poster & Print
Āwash sits where the railway between Addis Ababa and Djibouti crosses the Awash River, on the dry lowlands of the Afar region. From above, the town is a narrow strip of streets along the rail line and main road. Close by, the river has cut a deep gorge into the plain.
The town grew as a stop on the railway, which was built in the early twentieth century, and it has long been a waypoint for travellers heading east. Awash National Park lies just to the southwest. It is known for its savanna, its waterfalls on the river and its wildlife, including oryx.
A Āwash map poster shows this rare combination: the straight lines of rail and road, a small town, and the twisting line of a river gorge through empty ground. It is a sparse, strong design with an unmistakable sense of place.

Awash gorge
The river winds through a deep channel next to the town. It adds the only curving natural line to the map.
Open lowlands
Dry plains stretch in every direction. They leave broad white space around the thin line of the settlement.
