Bafatá sits in the interior of Guinea-Bissau, where the Geba River loops through flat, green country. From above, the town reads as a small, dense core near the water. Roads run out from it toward the surrounding farmland, and the river's curve sets a firm edge on one side of the composition.
The older part of town keeps a colonial-era street pattern of short blocks and modest squares. Around it, the layout loosens into irregular lanes and compounds. On a map, that shift from ordered centre to organic outskirts is easy to see, and it gives the image a quiet sense of how the town grew.
